Parts of the endoplasmic reticulum to which ribosomes are attached on the cytoplasmic side; involved in the biosynthesis of proteins for export to the outside of the cell and enzymes to be incorporated into cellular organelles such as lysosomes. See also endoplasmic reticulum.
