Balogh, Rudolf (1879-1944), Hungarian photojournalist and art photographer, trained in Vienna, who joined the Vasárnap Újság (Sunday Journal) in 1902. He exhibited regularly, from 1911 edited A Fény (The Light), and in 1914 founded Fotómûvészet (Art Photography). During the First World War he was a prolific war photographer on the Eastern Front, afterwards returning to photojournalism in Budapest. An extremely influential figure, Balogh was celebrated for his urban nocturnes, rural landscapes, and genre scenes; his late work reveals strong modernist influences. Most of his surviving photographs are in the Hungarian Museum of Photography.
