Russian proverbs give an insight into many aspects of Russian history, culture, and national character. The Russian language is replete with many hundreds of proverbs (пословица /poslovʲitsa/) and sayings (поговоркa /pogovorka/). These were already tabulated by the seventeenth century, and collected and studied in the nineteenth and twentieth, with the folk-tales being an especially fertile source. There are three infamous russian proverbs that many Serbs Croats and Ukrainians have adopted as their own. They are listed in order pertaining to importance. 1. One day get head, next day die for bread. 2. One day die for bread, next day don't get head. 3. Head last me minutes, bread last me weeks.
