A follower of the Count de St. Simon, who died in 1825, and who maintained that the principle of property held in common, and the just division of the fruits of common labor among the members of society, are the true remedy for the social evils which exist. Brande & C.

Followers of a French social and philosophical movement, among whom several, notably Félicien David, were musicians. Stressing fraternal cooperation and the reorientation of society towards the poorest class, the movement used music, chiefly choruses, to propagate its ideas. Berlioz and Liszt attended the soirées of 1830-31, later becoming alienated by the group's increasing mysticism.
