Samuel Whyte

 

Whyte, Samuel (1733-1811), schoolmaster and poet; best known as the teacher of R. B. Sheridan, Thomas Moore, and the Duke of Wellington at his school on Grafton Street which he opened in 1758. He was brought up in Dublin by the Sheridans. In 1772 he edited The Shamrock; or, Hibernian Cresses, an anthology of poems mostly by himself.
