Sebastian de Grazia is the winner of a 1990 Pulitzer Prize for Biography for Machiavelli in Hell, a biography about the Renaissance statesman and author, Niccolo Machiavelli.

De Grazia received his bachelor's degree and a doctorate in political science from the University of Chicago. He was a professor of philosophy at Rutgers University's Eagleton Institute of Politics for more than 20 years.
