Self deception is a mindset brought on by a long term perpetuated lie or lies. A person who consistantly tells the same untruth will eventually begin to believe it themself. More metaphorically speaking, self deception could be taken to mean "youre kidding yourself" (E.g "you'll never do that, who are you kidding?")
