The nature of the distribution of settlements. Some settlement patterns may be seen as a reflection of cultural traditions. For example, the isolated farmstead is typical of North Wales (See dispersed settlement), while the nucleated village is typical of lowland England. The technique of nearest neighbour analysis may be used to test for any regularities in settlement patterns.
