shadow factor

(electromagnetism) The ratio of the electric-field strength that would result from propagation of waves over a sphere to that which would result from propagation over a plane under comparable conditions.
(optics) A multiplication factor derived from the sun's declination, the latitude of the target and the time of photography, used in determining the heights of objects from shadow length. Also known as tan alt.
