The Shang Dynasty was previous to Taoism, Confucianism, and
Buddhism, and they worshipped many different gods. Shang-Ti (the
emperoror) was believed to be the link between the people and the
gods, and was believed to be the sky deity. It was important to
keep Shang-Ti happy and offerings and human sacrifices would be
given in his name.
