Showing Your Child The Value Of Sharing

As your child grows, they develop an understanding of the many values involved in being a good person. One value, sharing, can sometimes be difficult for children to learn. There are many ways, however, to give your child a gentle push in the right direction.

Communicate The Concept

It is crucial that you communicate the basic concept when teaching your child the importance of sharing. Explain to them the benefits that come along with sharing. Provide them with examples, such as how sharing will teach others to be generous with them, and how it will make them feel good about themselves.

To begin, offer your child their favorite sweet treat, such as a package of bite-sized candy. Ask your child if you can have a portion. If they say no, explain to them why it is important to share. When they say yes, praise them and give a small portion in return. This game reinforces the ideas and benefits of sharing.

Helping Others

A great opportunity to demonstrate sharing is through helping others. Volunteering for a good cause is great way to teach children that sharing can also make an impact on a community.
