sheet erosion

Geography Dictionary: sheet erosion

A very slow-acting form of erosion whereby a thin film of water—sheet wash—transports soil particles by rolling them along the ground. Compare with rill action and gullying. Some geomorphologists believe sheet erosion to be common on the upper and lower parts of a slope, while rill action dominates on the steeper mid-slope.
