Sitapur

 
Sitapur ('täpūr), town (1991 pop. 121,842), Uttar Pradesh state, N central India. The town is a market for grain, oilseed, and jute. The sugar and plywood industries are important. There is a hospital for eye disease. Sitapur is a district administrative center and is on the route of the Bareilly-Lucknow railroad. The town passed under British control in 1856.
