n, v

Definition: insult
Antonyms: compliment, flattery, praise

v

Definition: mumble words
Antonyms: enunciate, pronounce

A curved line extended over a number of notes to indicate their grouping; the term is also applied to the effect thus obtained. With string instruments, it signifies that the notes should be taken within one stroke of the bow; with wind instruments, that they should be played in one breath without separate articulation; and with keyboard instruments, a legato touch (not releasing one note until the next is sounded) is called for. In vocal music, slurs are normally used to show which notes are to be sung to a single syllable. Some composers (and particularly editors) provide slurs too long to allow a single bow or a single breath, and these have to be interpreted as indicating larger-scale phrasing. When a slur is shown with staccato dots or other indications on the notes beneath it, a specific bowing or articulation technique will be called for. See Articulation and Phrase.

A curved line joining two notes of the same pitch is a Tie.
