SmartMedia is an old flash memory format which is long obsolete. They have since been replaced with the common Secure Digital (SD and SDHC/SDXC), Compact Flash (CF), and others.
The SmartMedia cards were created by Toshiba. They had incerdibly limited storage capacities, especially compared to today's cards. The largest size was 128MB, while modern cards come in capacities up to 512GB - that's over 4000 times larger!
