The process of familiarization between animals in a group and, in companion animals, between the animal and humans.

  • s. period — the critical age when the young animal is most likely to establish social relationships, forming the basis for its personality, particularly toward humans, and trainability. In puppies, this is from approximately 3 to 12 weeks of age and approximately 2 to 7 weeks for kittens.
