Founded in 1969, Software AG is an enterprise software company with over 4,000 enterprise customers in over 70 countries. The company is the second largest software vendor in Germany, the fourth in Europe (following SAP's acquisition of Business Objects) and among the top 25 globally.

In addition to ADABAS database management system and the Natural application development language, Software AG has extended its focus to the middleware market with products for service-oriented architecture (SOA), business process management (BPM), business integration and application modernization. According to research firm Gartner, Inc., Software AG is third globally for enterprise service bus (ESB) and business process management suite (BPMS) market share. These efforts have been aided by the company’s $546M acquisition of U.S. rival webMethods in 2007.[1] Software AG's webMethods product line has been recognized in numerous categories by Gartner and Forrester.[2]

Software AG is traded on the Frankfurt Exchange’s TechDax under the symbol “SOW”.
