The university also maintains relationships with industry entities, and brings in "Visiting Wisdom" and "CEO Quest" speakers from the professional world to share their experiences with the students.
Academics
SPJCM offers an intensive one year full-time residential post-graduate program (GMBA), as well as a comprehensive two year part-time executive program for working professionals (EMBA).
GMBA
There are two batch intakes in a year, numbering about 100 to 130 students each; one in July and one in December. Each intake is divided into two cohorts; one sent to Singapore, and the other to Dubai. The cohorts complete most of their core courses at their respective campuses during the first semester, and then switch countries during the second semester to complete their specialization courses. Specializations offered for GMBA include:
- Marketing
- Services marketing
- Retail marketing
- Product marketing
- Internet marketing
- Finance
- Investment banking
- Wealth management
- Banking management
- Information Technology management
- Global Logistics and Supply Chain management
- Human Resources management
The courses range in duration from one to two weeks each and are often moved around within the semester depending on faculty availability (as the faculty are flown in and out for the duration of the course). In addition to final examinations, the pedagogy gives significant weight to regular quizzes and group projects/assignments. Classes are digitally recorded and archived.
During the first semester, the Industry Immersion Project or IIP course has the students do case studies or other work for a company (regional companies are encouraged for local exposure purposes). In the second semester, a dissertation/capstone project is undertaken by all students to round off their degrees. Guest lecturers from the professional world are often brought in to provide added contemporary and/or local perspective.
EMBA
The EMBA courses are conducted in the evenings and/or on weekends for three or more hours at a time, to accommodate the schedule of employed students. Usually, a full course will be completed in a week. EMBA specializations include:
- Finance
- Marketing
- Operations.
- Human Resources Management- only at the Dubai campus
Campuses
SPJCM has two global campuses. One is located in Dubai's Academic City, and the other is located in Singapore.
Singapore Campus
S P Jain's Singapore campus is situated along Hyderabad Road, near the intersection of Depot and Alexandra. It is located not far from downtown Singapore, and well-connected to public transport. The campus previously belonged to the Institute of Dental Health, and to the Nizam of Hyderabad at one time before that. While it had begun hosting courses by June 2006, the new campus was officially inaugurated on March 9, 2007 by Singapore's Minister of Education, Tharman Shanmugaratnam [1].
The seven-acre campus is dominated by a residential/academic/administrative block (Block A) and a library/faculty/executive development/cafeteria block (Block B). It includes an "Executive Development Center", which was completed in March 2007, and is used for corporate training programs, lectures and events. It was originally a British construction, and was refurbished with a combination of modern and colonial styles to fit SPJCM's needs.
Admission
Application forms and prospecti for GMBA and EMBA are available at SPJIMR and SPJCM campuses. Online application is also accepted. The admission process is free at the application form level. Once accepted, the rest of the process, involving group discussions, personal interviews and essay tests, is conducted at a nominal fee. GMBA admission requirements mandate that applicants take either CAT, Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or SPJCM's own aptitude test. For the EMBA the selection is based on the candidates' academic and work profile and also on an aptitude test, case study and personal interview. Although prior work experience is not compulsory for applying, only a handful of exceptional students without prior work experience are selected.
SPJCM receives close to 10,000 applications for the 250-odd seats offered every admission season.
Accreditation and Ranking
SPJCM is one of four foreign institutions designated "Institution of Higher Learning" by the Singapore Ministry of Education, enabling it to grant an MBA degree from the Singapore campus. It is also licensed by the Dubai Knowledge Village, a Government of Dubai initiative.[2].
SP Jain has been consistently ranked among the top 10 B-schools in South Asia by AsiaInc magazine. In 2006, it was ranked 3rd among private Indian B-schools by Outlook, and among the top 10 in terms of global linkage, industry interface and placement performance[3].
In a Brand Perception Audit conducted by AC Nielsen in mid-2008, SPJCM scored the highest opinion index among all institutions of higher learning operating in the UAE, based on interviews with 100 senior professionals from leading corporate houses in the UAE, regarding key parameters of academics, facilities, and the like.
