Spyware Blaster is a malware detector that will identify and remove the viruses that can sometimes be found in Active X software. It works by isolating and blocking the infected software as it attempts to load on to the PC and as such must be kept up to date to ensure that it always has the latest information on viral strains.

You don't need to access Windows Update. Ther are plenty of other programs to fix your computer, it's all explained on www.freecomputerrepairguide.com - take it look, it links to all sorts of free tools.

You can download other SPYWARE programs, like spywareblaster or spybot s&d. These are generally better than anything you'll find at Microsoft.

Go to Microtrend on the Internet. Very good tool.

Those first two are for grade school kids, use Webroots Spysweeper this one takes a while but found over 2800 malicious adware/spyware on my PC that spybot never even checked for... it costs but use the 30 day trial

The first time I ran Spybot S&D, I was surprised to see that a couple of Microsoft programs, or at least sponsored or partnered with Microsoft, were classified as spyware by this software. This led me to the admittedly paranoid conclusion that, in all probability, Microsoft wants to give us free adware removers to clear the field for their own spyware. I'll stick to Spybot, Adaware and Spyware Blaster, thanks very much. Good luck.
