Staedtler Mars GmbH & Co. KG is a German fine writing instruments company and one of the world's leading manufacturers and suppliers of writing and engineering drawing instruments. The company was founded by J.S. Staedtler in 1835. The company produces many writing instruments, including drafting pencils, leadholders, professional pens, and standard wooden pencils.^[1] It also produces plastic erasers, rulers, masterbows, and other drawing/writing accessories. Staedtler has over 20 global subsidiaries and seven manufacturing facilities.^[2] Its Noris line of pencils are extremely common in British schools.

• 1662 Friedrich Staedtler is recorded to be a pencil maker in Nuremberg
• 1834 J. S. Staedtler invents coloured oil pastel pencils which "can be sharpened to a point just like a pencil"
• 1835 Manufacturing license granted by municipal council and J.S. Staedtler transforms the centuries old workshop into an industrial plant
• 1880 Staedtler is taken over by Ludwig Kreutzer
• 1884 Export office in London
• 1887 Export office in Paris
• 1895 Minerva brand registered at the imperial patent office in Berlin
• 1898 Company relocated to the Johannis District
• 1900 Mars brand registered at the imperial patent office in Berlin
• 1901 Noris brand registered at the imperial patent office in Berlin. The Mars indelible pencil 754 in blue lacquer finish comes onto the market
