It's perhaps not surprising that Katie Couric, the US's first female network news anchor, started off her tenure in a voice uniquely her own — and it was not a stentorian (loud and booming) one:

"The 'CBS Evening News' is third [after NBC and ABC], but Couric has said that could be liberating, offering a chance to try new things in a format she has called formulaic.
"That willingness was apparent even before the first commercial break — this was not a stentorian reading off dozens of news headlines."
