Biography

Born and raised in Dallas, TX, country vocalist Steve Holy was the youngest of eight children and entertained his grade school classmates with his imitations of Conway Twitty. At 19, he auditioned for the local Mesquite Opry and later earned a spot on Johnny High's Country Music Revue, eventually garnering the revue's Entertainer of the Year award. This brought the attention of legendary country producer Wilbur Rimes (and his daughter LeAnn), who encouraged Holy to shop himself around Nashville. Curb Records signed the young singer/songwriter in 1999 and his Wilbur Rimes-produced album, Blue Moon, was released in late 2000. Brand New Girlfriend arrived in 2006. ~ Zac Johnson, All Music Guide

Career

Steve Holy was born February 23, 1972 in Dallas, Texas as the youngest of eight children.[1] He entered a local competition called the Mesquite Opry at age nineteen. While there, he caught the attention of Wilbur Rimes, the father of country singer LeAnn Rimes. By 1999, Holy was signed to Curb Records.

His first single for the label, "Don't Make Me Beg", peaked at #29 on the Billboard country charts in 2000. By February of that year, Holy's debut album, Blue Moon, was released.[1] Its second and third singles, which were the title track and "The Hunger", respectively, both reached #24 on the country charts. The fourth single, "Good Morning Beautiful", became his biggest hit, spending five weeks at Number One on the country charts, and reaching #29 on the Billboard Hot 100. This song was also featured in the soundtrack to the film Angel Eyes.

Second album

After "Good Morning Beautiful", Holy released his fifth single, "I'm Not Breakin'", in late 2002. This was followed by four more singles over the next two years: "Rock-a-Bye Heart", "Put Your Best Dress On" (previously recorded by Neal McCoy on his 2003 album The Luckiest Man in the World), "Go Home", and "It's My Time (Waste It If I Want To)". Although the first three of these five singles all reached Top 40, with "Put Your Best Dress On" peaking at #26, none was ever included on an album.

Finally, in 2005, Holy released "Brand New Girlfriend", an up-tempo co-written by Jeffrey Steele, Shane Minor and Bart Allmand. This song became Holy's second Number One on the country charts, reaching the top of the charts in its thirty-sixth week, and setting a record for the slowest climb to Number One on that chart since the inception of Nielsen SoundScan in 1990.[2] (This record was broken one year later by Tracy Lawrence, whose "Find Out Who Your Friends Are" reached Number One in its forty-first chart week.) "Brand New Girlfriend" was the lead-off single to Holy's second studio album, also entitled Brand New Girlfriend. This album also produced the lesser Top 40 country hits "Come On Rain" and "Men Buy the Drinks (Girls Call the Shots)" at #35 and #38, respectively. A thirteenth single, "Might Have Been", was released in mid-2008 and on the chart week of December 27, 2008 debuted at #60 on the Hot Country Songs chart.
