Of, relating to, or being the geographic areas adjacent to the Tropics.

The term is used loosely to refer either to regions which experience some features of tropical meteorology during part of the year, or to regions of near-tropical climate.

A more precise definition denotes those areas lying between the Tropic of Cancer and 40° N, and the Tropic of Capricorn and 40° S.
