There are seven kandas (cantos) in Valmiki Ramayana.

They are

* Balakanda about the birth and childhood of Rama * Ayodhya Kanda about the youth of Rama and his marriage * Aranya Kanda about the exile of Rama and Sita along with Lakshmana and Sita's abduction by Ravana * Kishkindha Kanda about Rama's friendship with Sugriva and killing of Valmiki by Rama * Sundara Kanda about finding Sita by Hanuman * Yudhdha Kanda about the war in Lanka where Rama kills Ravana * Uttara Kanda about the rule of Rama and aftermath describing the life of Lava and Kusha.
