Jonsson, Sune (b. 1930), Swedish photographer, writer, and film-maker, born in the northern province of Västerbotten. He studied ethnography at Stockholm University before returning home to embark on what became a lifelong documentary project. Basing himself at the provincial museum, he has produced over twenty books, including several novels, c.50 films, and a vast photographic archive. Västerbotten has remained the epicentre of his work, although Prague, Congo, and southern Sweden have also inspired monographs. His first book, Byn med det blå huset (The Village with the Blue House, 1958), expanded the documentary repertoire, blending crisp classical photography with evocative short stories about a region and its people. Concerned with rural ways of life in a period of rapid change, Jonsson has focused on both individual destinies and disappearing occupations. His particular interest in agriculture has resulted in a 40-year, nationwide survey of changes in the cultivated landscape and its inhabitants. In 1993 he received the Hasselblad Prize.
