Surt (or Sirte) (Arabic: سرت,
pronunciation (help·info)) is one of the districts of Libya, which lies in the north of the country and borders the Gulf of Sidra. Its capital is the city of Surt. Al-Tahadi University is located in Surt.
Surt District boundaries have changed after the 2007 administrative reorganization of libyan Shab'iyat (see maps).
In the north, Surt has a shoreline on the Mediterranean Sea. On land, it borders the following districts:
- Al Wahat - east
- Al Jufrah - south
- Al Jabal al Gharbi - west
- Misratah - northwest
Transport
Surt is the interim destination of a railway from Tunisia under construction in 2007.
