Property of ink describing its stickiness as measured by an inkometer. Tack controls the amount of force necessary to press an inked surface, such as a print blanket or plate, against another surface, such as paper, to transfer ink and then to separate the surfaces. Ink with too much tack damages the paper surface. Tack control is especially important in overprinting (layering printed images onto the same sheet), which requires the bottom-layer ink to have the greatest degree of tack and each sucessive layer to have less tack. Generally, the faster the printing press used, the less tack the ink should have.
