The primary meaning is 'perceptible by touch', but in practice figurative uses tend to be more common, in which the meaning becomes 'clearly intelligible, not imaginary or hypothetical', as in tangible assets, tangible evidence, tangible improvement, tangible proof and a tangible sign.
