Bubble tea was invented in Taiwan in the 1980s. It is not clear which exact tea shop came up with the beverage first, but the two most likely suspects are Chun Shui Tang teahouse and the Hanlin teahouse.

Mighty Leaf Tea is made by Mighty Leaf Tea, a company started by Gary Shinner and Jill Portman. In 1996 they opened their teahouse on Fillmore Street in San Francisco. From this they went on to create their own tea products ranging from tea pouches to exotic and unique flavoured loose tea.

There are tea shops in Kansas City. There is a Teavanna store, Teahouse, and Anna Marie's Teas. There is also a Whole Foods Market.
