Techkriti is the annual science and technology festival of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. Over the years, Techkriti has grown into one of the largest festivals of its kind in Asia. Held every February for a period of four days, the event attracts a large number of young, budding scientists, inventors, and technocrats from all over India to participate in the science and technology extravaganza. Events like International Online Programming Contest and International Online Hacking Contest also draw a good amount of international participation.
Techkriti provides a platform for the participants to showcase their enthusiasm for and talent in science and technology. At techkriti, they are encouraged to think creatively for the solutions of the problems faced by the world, and transforming these ideas into reality. They also get the opportunity to meet, and gain inspiration from, some of their role-models from the world of technology.

Robogames
Robogames, is a competitions of machines. It contains a large variety of events like autonomous, semi autonomous, fully manual robotic events, where robots will fight for the best among them. The competitions in this event are:

Endeavour
Endeavour 2008, the jewel of Techkriti, encompasses almost every field of engineering. Endeavour symbolizes the creative genius and passion to give a tangible form to a newborn idea. This event provides a platform to the budding minds of tomorrow to showcase their technical ingenuity.
Gearloose
Today, in this world where terms like "optimization", "multiutility" and "environment protection" are indispensable, there is a growing need for creating non-conventional energy based models to serve the various requirements, both for macro and micro purposes. Gearloose is one such effort in this direction. We, in here, pose challenging problems, related, both to industry and daily life and expect, from our participants to come up with interesting models, out of stuff generally discarded as scrap.The event is eponymous in the sense that it invites only mechanical models.
SciMaTeX
SciMaTeX is the only pure Science event in Techkriti. The events range from abstract mathematics to explorations of intriguing 'what-if' scenarios subject to physical laws or, at times, not subject to them. The events are:
- NerdoQooz : A quiz for the nerds. Questions are from all branches of science.
- Hypothetica : An essay writing (or a case study) competition on some 'what-if' scenarios.
- TechOlympiad : The small scale version of the International Olympiads.
- Prayog : The experimental physics competition.
- Brainwaves : A quiz for the mathematicians. Very few facts are required to solve the mathematical riddles.
- Vyakhya : A Teaching competition in which the participant has to teach a subject of his choice in 30 minutes.
IDPC
TesseracT
This is an online event version of a treasure hunt, in which contestants have to navigate though a maze of webpages which sometimes require submitting answers to a javascript code, modifying the address line, looking in the source code, etc. besides sound quizzing ability.

GCOSE
GCOSE(Grand Challenges of Science and Engineering) is an initiative taken this Techkriti. GCOSE is organized to foster scientific thinking, to make students aware of all the latest going on in the world of science and technology. It is a stage where esteemed scientists, researchers and entrepreneurs talk to the student participants and motivate them.
International events
IORC(Indian Open Rubik's Cube), IOPC(International Online Programming Contest and IOHC(International Online Hacking Contest)are the International Events organized under the banner of Techkriti by IIT Kanpur.
IORC
IORC is an international Rubik's Cube competition which was hold in Techkriti'08 and Techkriti'09. The event was affiliated by WCA(World Cube Association).The event was the first of its kind in the country. Participants of all age and nationality were allowed. The event also allowed non college participation. There are mainly 6 sub-events(in Techkriti'08) in the competition namely:
- 2*2*2 speedcubing
- 3*3*3 speedcubing
- 4*4*4 speedcubing
- 3*3*3 blindfolded
- 3*3*3 one handed
- Square one speedcubing
However the exact number and the nature of sub events changed in Techkriti'09. The winner of the first and second competition(most sub-events winner) was Orlando Bernett. Three National records and one Asian record got broken in the first competition.
Techkriti'09 also included 5*5*5 speedcubing and multiple blindfolded events.
IOPC
IOPC is the 24-hour online programming contest which IIT Kanpur organizes under the flagship of Techkriti. IOPC was born with the Techkriti 2004. With the IOPC 2005, it came to be recognized as a truly global event with participation from the best programming enthusiasts in the global students’ community. Today, IOPC is known for its original and challenging problems. Here are some facts about the IOPC 2008:
- Total number of registered teams = 634
- Total number of submissions = 2215
- Total teams in the rank list = 120
- Total teams which solved at least two problems = 53
- Teams which submitted at least one problem = 198
- Total teams from outside India in top 10 = 8
- Duration of contest (in hrs)= 24
IOHC
IOHC is the 12-hour online hacking contest which IIT Kanpur organizes under the flagship of Techkriti. The IOHC problems generally reflect the basic security principles and their understanding. The aim of the contest is to promote the learning of computer networking, cryptography, etc through their applications in hacking. The problems that are used in IOHC are original and designed to get people to think beyond the mundane problems of computing. These are some facts about the IOHC 2008:
- Total number of registered teams = 293
- Total number of problems = 6
- Total teams which solved at least four problems = 36
- Teams which submitted at least one problem = 198
- Duration of contest (in hrs)= 12
Software Corner
All competitions testing the software skills of the participants are clubbed under the heading Software Corner. These include A.I. contest (Gimmick), on the spot algorithm contest (Instant), new API learning contest (Chaos), open software showcase event (Open Software Contest) among others.
Techkriti 10
Techkriti 2010 will be held from February 11 to 14, 2010. As the premier institute of technology is celebrating its Golden Jubilee this year, Techkriti 10 is expected to be BIG!
Techkriti 09
Techkriti 2009 was held at IIT Kanpur from February 12 to 15, 2009. Techkriti 2009 was made memorable by Hanson Robotics' exhibition on the popular humanoid robot- Zeno, talks by Stephen Wolfram, David Morrison, G. Madhavan Nair and Ron Eglash and a scintillating pyrotechnical cum laser show.
Techkriti 08
Techkriti 08 was held from 14th to 17th February 2008, and had a participation of more than 150 colleges. Festival was conducted during the tenure of K. Ashwin, General Secretary, Science and Technology Council of the Students' Gymkhana, IIT Kanpur. Keynote presentations were given by Peter Grünberg, Kevin Warwick and Harsh Manglik.
Techkriti 07
Techkriti 2007 was held at IIT Kanpur campus from February 22 to 25, 2007. The event was branded as Techkriti Oh-Seven! This festival was conducted during the tenure of Saumya Jain as the General Secretary, Science and Technology Council of the Students' Gymkhana, IIT Kanpur. The festival Chairman was Dr. Rajat Moona and the Event Manager was Rakshit Kachhal.
