1. the paired brain vesicles, which are the anterolateral outpouchings of the forebrain, together with the median, unpaired portion, the terminal lamina of the hypothalamus; from it the cerebral hemispheres are derived.
2. the anterior of the two vesicles formed by specialization of the forebrain in embryonic development.
