Sports Science and Medicine: tensor fasciae latae

Muscle of the anterior compartment of thigh that has its origins on the anterior aspect of the iliac crest and anterior superior iliac spine, and its insertion on the iliotibial tract. It acts as a synergist of the iliopsoas, gluteus medius, and gluteus minimus muscles during flexion and abduction, and medial rotation of the thigh, steadying the trunk by making the iliotibial tract taut. It also takes part in knee extension.
