Die Bakchantinnen [The Bacchae] is an opera by Egon Joseph
Wellesz (1885-1974) an Austrian composer. The Bacchae is an ancient
Greek tragedy play by the Athenian playwright Euripides and is
based on the mythological story of King Pentheus of Thebes and his
mother Agavë, and their punishment by the god Dionysus for refusing
to worship him.
