One of Scotland's best-known tourist attractions, the monster, Orm, or Nessy, has a surprisingly ancient history. Adamnán's life of Colum Cille, written c.690, reports that the saint caused an open-jawed monster in River Ness to submerge and cease threatening a man swimming. See also AFANC; SEA MONSTER.
