The 2012 Olympics were awarded to London. The majority of events
will be held in specially built stadiums within the London Borough
of Newham.
THAT IS NOT THE RIGHT ANSWER DO YOU KNOW WHY BECAUSE IT HAS
NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT QUESTION THIS IS THE RIGHT ANSWER BELOW US
IN CAPITALS.
NEWHAM WAS CHOSEN BECAUSE IT IS A RIGHT DUMP AND WE WANTED TO
MAKE IT BETTER BY HAVING THE OLYMPICS THERE.
. The chosen area is in the 1% of the Most Deprived in England.
Holding the Olympics in that area would provide a much needed boost
to some of the city's most deprived areas.
There are many places in Newham that could easily be bought at a
low price and then easily cleared and built into various sites for
the Olympics in 2012. There is a lot of wasteland where there is
nothing to clear and the land is flat and easy to build on. It is
very cheap to buy and lots of space to build stadiums onto. Many
parts of Newham are old and run down. There are many old Garages
and warehouses that are old, battered and not in use anymore. These
will be extremely cheap to buy and would improve the environment
quality in the area around it. Also it will not be any problem for
any of the locals and they would be happy to get rid of it as it is
not very pleasant to look at. There are many traveller sites for
Gypsies. You could buy them cheaply and also there homes are not
permanent and they could easily move. There are lots of abandoned
houses that people are trying to sell off very cheaply. Knocking
these down would create more space for car parks or stadiums.
Also, putting the Olympic site in Newham will improve the area's
depravedness. The Olympic site will provide at least 9,000 knew
jobs and 4,000 new homes for the area, which has an unemployment
rate of 11.7%.
If you look at how many people live in council houses, the rate
is a lot higher in that area. Also a very high amount of people
live in flats, maisonettes or apartments. As well only 51.0% of
Newham's GCSE students got grades A*- C. There is an extreme amount
of crime in Newham. There is 33.5 vehicle crimes, 32.7 violence
against people crimes, 10.5 street crimes, 8.0 Residential
burglaries and 1.8 sexual offences and hopefully building the
Olympic site here will help the lives of those people and get them
jobs so they do not need to steal or commit crimes. Also 36.2% of
the area are Economically Inactive.
However Newham has been named the second worst robbery hotspot
in London. This will raise concerns about spectators' safety during
the 2012 Games. Met statistics show Newham, with 2,077 offences,
was the second worst borough for robberies last year. Its Stratford
and New Town ward - including the international rail and Tube
stations - came third in a table of London's most robbery-hit wards
with 219 offences. Newham's Forest Gate South ward was also among
the top 10 worst areas. The figures highlight the challenge that
police will face during the Olympics.
