Timbits is the brand name of bite-sized doughnut balls sold at the Canadian Tim Hortons restaurant chain. The treats were introduced in April 1976 and are now available in a selection of varieties that differs from store to store. Flavours include chocolate, jelly-filled, "dutchie," honey dip, and apple fritter.
The "bit" in the word Timbit is an acronym for Big In Taste, which was half of the slogan for the original 1976 add campaign Big In Taste, Small In Size[citation needed]
Other doughnut chains in Canada and the United States sell virtually identical products, often called "doughnut holes". However, due to Tim Hortons' place in Canadian culture, Timbits is often used as a generic term for these in Canada, even when they are purchased from another chain.
Timbits Minor Sports Program
Timbits also refers to participants in the Timbits Minor Sports Program, a community program sponsored by Tim Hortons for local sports teams involving children aged four to eight years. The program places an emphasis on learning the sport and building friendships among the participants.[citation needed]
