1. Different colors derived from a single color, such as powder blue from blue or rose from red, that are created by varying the amount of white mixed into the color or showing through the color. Ink color charts, which are used to order color printing, provide samples of various standard tints, with quantified strengths of color, such as 50% or 25% of full color. The charts include tints composed of one primary color or combinations of two primary colors.

2. Lithographic printing problem that occurs when the fountain solution and the ink form an emulsion (oil- and water-based solution), causing the nonimage areas of the plate to pick up a small amount of ink that will lightly color (tint) the paper.
