The Treaty of Frankfurt ended the Franco-Prussian war and marked
the entry of a newly unified Germany which was dominated by the
empires of England and France for a long time. This treaty made
France pay them an indemnity of 5 billion Francs and kept an army
in France until it had been paid. Because of this, France
surrendered Strasburg, Alsace and part of Lorraine to Bismark.
