Trimethylaminuria TMAU, formerly called Fish Odor Syndrome, is a
metabolic disorder in which an individual is lacking the necessary
enzyme to breakdown a chemical named trimethylamine. This missing
enzyme causes trimethylamine to accumulate in the body and is then
released in sweat, urine and breath. Some individuals give off a
strong fishy body odor but it can vary to a garbage, burning or
other body odor ( odour ) depending on the amount of residual
