An American theologian and editor, Tryon Edwards was the great, great grandson of Jonathan Edwards, whose works he collected and published in The Works of Jonathan Edwards, D.D. (2 volumes, 1842). Tryon Edwards wrote a memoir that was published in The Collected Works of Joseph Bellamy (1850) and a series of sermons that were published in 1852 as Charity and Its Fruits. In 1877, Edwards compiled A New Dictionary of Thoughts: A Cyclopedia of Quotations. Still available today, this collection was reprinted by Doubleday in 1960 and was reissued as The World's Greatest Quotations by Crest Publishing House in 2004.

    A native of Terre Haute, Indiana, Edward P. Tryon is a professor of physics at Hunter College in Manhattan. His specialization is in theoretical quark models, theoretical general relativity, and cosmology. In 1973 he proposed that the Universe is a large-scale vacuum energy fluctuation. He has been quoted as saying, "Our Universe is simply one of those things that happens from time to time."[1]
