Turner Prize was created in 1984.

The Turner Prize was established in 1984 and is awarded to an artist under 50. As Patrick Heron was born in 1920 he was never eligible for a Turner Prize. But he did win the John Moores Prize for Painting in 1965 which was the most prestigious prize for painting in those days.
