The Una-Sana Canton is one of the 10 cantons of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is located in the northwest of the country and has been named after the rivers Una and Sana. The center of canton government is Bihać.

Population

The canton is inhabited by around 305,000 people (2001 est.), mostly ethnic Bosniaks. There are also some Serbs who mostly live in the municipality of Bosanski Petrovac. In 2003, population of Una Sana Canton numbered 304,181 people, including 286,989 Bosniaks (94.3%), 10,343 Serbs (3.4%), 5,596 Croats (1.8%), and 1,253 people of other ethnicities (0.4%).

Municipalities

It is divided into municipalities (usually eponymous with towns) of Bihać, Bosanska Krupa, Bosanski Petrovac, Bužim, Cazin, Ključ, Sanski Most and Velika Kladuša.

Traffic

Due to the proximity to Croatia and that country's peculiar shape, various important traffic lines between Zagreb and the Adriatic traverse the Una-Sana canton, such as the railway line Bosanski Novi — Bihać — Knin. The largest airport of Željava is located near Bihać and is located right between Bosnian and Croatian border.
