Basketball fans have more hardwood action to enjoy thanks to this enterprise. The United States Basketball League (USBL) operates an association of professional basketball teams that play a 30-game schedule from April through June. The league encompasses a half dozen teams, including the Brooklyn Kings, the Dodge City Legend, and the Kansas Cagerz, which compete with 11 players each. The USBL generates revenue mostly through franchise fees and marketing sponsorships. It is intended to be a development league for recent college graduates and international players to showcase their skills for scouts from National Basketball Association teams. The founding Meisenheimer family controls about 90% of the USBL.

The United States Basketball League OTCBB: USBL is a professional men's spring basketball league. The league was formed in 1985. The current champions are the Kansas Cagerz, who won the title game on July 1, 2007.

Current status

After speculation that the USBL might fold after the 2007 season[1], the league announced that it will sit out the 2008 season and consider its options for the future.[2] It has not since restarted, although as of July 2009, its website states that it will play in 2010.

2007 season

Originally the USBL began 2007 with ten teams in two five-team divisions, but the failure of the New Jersey Meteors, Delaware Stars and Jackson Wildcats (and the initial failure and later reinstatement of the Long Island PrimeTime), the league was realigned in mid-season into a single division.
