University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics partners with the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine and the University of Iowa Physicians group practice organization to make up the University of Iowa Health Care network. The organization provides residents of the Hawkeye State with an acute care hospital serving a variety of inpatient and outpatient needs, including more than 200 health care specialties. The facility also houses the Children's Hospital of Iowa and the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. As an teaching facility, it also houses 20 academic departments. The health care system, founded in 1898, has some 680 beds.
