The University of New Orleans (UNO) provides some 12,000 graduate and undergraduate students with more than 100 degree programs. It has colleges of business, education and human development, engineering, liberal arts, and sciences; graduate programs include applied physics, business administration, and urban studies. UNO has been working to rebuild itself since it was damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The university was founded by an act of the state legislature in 1956; it is part of the Louisiana State University System.
