The American Continental Navy "drove" the first USS Enterprise;
which was a wooden sloop powered by the wind (the age of sail) in
1775.
In 1776 a schooner was the navy's USS Enterprise.
In 1799 a brig.
In 1831 another schooner.
In 1877 a steam powered corvette.
In 1917 a patrol boat.
In 1938, the most famous of all Enterprises was commissioned;
CV6, the most decorated US warship of WWII; and the only survivor
of the USS Yorktown class aircraft carriers.
