Biography

Born on December 25, 1939, in Indore, India, Rais Khan was taught initially by his father Muhammad Khan but was driven by his mother when it came to riyaz (practice). On his mother's side he is related to the sitar virtuoso Inayat Khan of the Imdadkhani gharana. (See Chairman's Choice -- Great Gharanas: Imdadkhani on EMI India.)
