UTC+8 is a band of timezones separated from the Greenwich Mean Time by 8 hours.

With an estimated population of 1,53 billion living within the time zone, roughly 22,5% of the world population, it's the most populated time zone in world, as well as a possible candidate for ASEAN Common Time.

Discrepancies between official UTC+8 and geographical UTC+8

Since legal, political and economic in addition to physical or geographical criteria are used in the drawing of time zones, it follows that official time zones do not precisely adhere to meridian lines. The UTC+8 time zone, were it drawn by purely geographical terms, would consist of exactly the area between meridians 112°30′ E and 127°30′ E.
As a result, there are Asian locales that despite lying in an area with a "physical" UTC+8 time, actually use another time zone.
Conversely, there are Asian areas that have gone for UTC+8, even though their "physical" time zone is UTC+7 (peninsular Malaysia and Singapore), UTC+9 (easternmost parts of China and the state of Western Australia).
