Value engineering is important because companies want to differentiate their products from their competitors. Value engineering adds features for the customers.

I am an engineer in value engineering. Value engineering can be used as an umbrella statement to cover nearly any cost savings, or "Value Added" endever that involves engineering. From industrial engineering, it could, for example, involve making the line run more efficiently by eliminating man hours /men required, or eliminating extra operations required for manufacturing.
