Ventrobasal complex

Wikipedia: Ventrobasal complex

The ventrobasal complex is a relay nucleus of the thalamus of the human brain.

Function

The ventrobasal complex receives sensory input from the medial lemniscus (originating in the medulla), from spinothalamic tracts, and from the trigeminal nerve. It subsequently relays the inputs to the primary sensory (somesthetic) area of the cerebral cortex. Synchronously, it distinguishes sensory inputs from deep sensory receptors from cutaneous inputs.[1].
